I love helping people get jobs, especially when they have been out of work for months and months. So, when I got a call today from a recruiter asking me to help one of her clients I immediately said “yes.”
Joe called me an hour later and thanked me for being open to help him. Then, he proceeded to tell me all the things he hadn’t done, the things he couldn’t do, and how he couldn’t meet with me until after he returned from vacation.
Wait a minute! Wasn’t this the same guy who just told me that he couldn’t pay his mortgage? Didn’t he just say that he was facing foreclosure?
I hope he has a good vacation. But I seriously wonder whether he has the commitment to do the work of searching for a job.
Job search is not something someone else does for you. You have to have a plan. You have to work it. The motive force behind a successful job search is wanting to get the job you want. I know it sounds a bit redundant. But, no one is going to want a job for you. Do YOU really want a job.
I’ll fill you in on the details IF he ever gets back to me. Maybe he’ll just go on vacation and stay there. In the meantime, let me tell you the story of Susan.
